MEMO
FROM THE TOWN SUPERVISOR: It has been an extremely busy summer. Many
thanks to Judy Bechard for again leading a very successful summer swim program
for the children of Chazy, West Chazy and Sciota. Approximately 95 participants
per day of instruction were enthusiastically received. A truly wonderful turn
out for a super program that will benefit many for a lifetime.
Many thanks to all of the baseball and soccer
coaches who have and are leading wonderful and successful programs. Special
thanks to our Recreation Supervisor Mr. John Munson, who does a superb job
working with coaches to ensure they have everything they need to run the summer
and fall programs.
We are very pleased to announce our new Town
Website is up and operational. Please check it out at www.TownofChazy.com
. Suggestions and input would be greatly appreciated! If you have a community
event you would like posted, please let us know.
We will begin replacing certain sections of
sidewalks in the Chazy and West Chazy areas soon. Our train overpass has been
painted. Many thanks to the railroad for helping us beautify one of the
entrances to our community.
We would like to thank Conrad Bechard for many
hours of dedicated service on our water and sewer system.
Many thanks to the Town Board for all their help in
preparing next years budget. The Town is fiscally sound due to the efforts of
all departments watching to ensure our tax dollars are spent wisely. The Town
Board appreciates your efforts .
I wish everyone a safe and happy Holiday
Season.

FROM THE TOWN CLERK/TAX COLLECTOR: DOG LICENSES Ð When registering or re-registering your dog please
provide the Town ClerkÕs office with the certificate of rabies, as a license
cannot be issued with out a current rabies certificate. Dogs are to be licensed

dogs and $15.50 for un-neutered and un-spayed dogs.

re-levied onto the land tax in January. Also, if you do not receive your land
tax bill by the middle of January, please call me at 846-7544 ext. 2 to get a
copy, as a penalty will be levied after January 31, 2008.

MEMO
FROM THE HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENT: The town's sand and salt pile is now
done. We have approximately 5,000 yards stock piled. This should be
enough to get us through the winter.
The highway department has purchased a new backhoe
to be used for ditching and various other uses. A 20-ton trailer has also
been purchased for moving equipment between job sites. This will save
unnecessary wear and tear.
The highway garage parking lot has been graded and
paved to prevent water from running into overhead doors.
The town has put out
to bid for the purchase of an outdoor wood boiler. Until now we
have been using an older indoor wood furnace, but safety is an issue.
Before burning wood the highway garage used approximately 4,000 gallons of
kerosene per year. We have cut that use to under 1,000 gallons per
year. Considering a 3,000-gallon savings per year at current prices, it
won't take long to pay for the purchase of an outdoor boiler.
We are currently
working on a grant for a sand and salt storage building. Plow equipment
will be readied shortly. We are hoping for a mild winter with little
wind.

MEMO
FROM CHAZY HISTORIAN: The Historian's office has had a busy summer with
locals and individuals visiting from as far away as California researching
their Chazy roots. They certainly have kept us busy!
The Miner Institute has done remarkable work
cleaning up two previously abandoned cemeteries on the Ridge Road, the
Wilson Cemetery on the corner of the Mcadam and Ridge Roads and the
Talford Cemetery just north on the Ridge road. Robert Talford
born 1770 in England and his wife Catherine settled on the Ridge road in the
early 1800's with their 2 sons William and Jonathan both born in England in
1801 and 1802 respectively. Jonathan married Sophie Loomis and had
10 children. Both Jonathan and his wife and many of their unmarried children
Harriet, Ruth, Emma, Polly, George, William, Robert, and Wesley are buried
in this cemetery.
William Wilson an
early settler from Ryegate, Vt and his wife Mary settled in Chazy also in
the early 1800's and had 13 children, one of whom was Nathan. The
Wilson Cemetery contains the
graves
of members of Nathan Wilson's family, Adaline Hubbard his 36-year-old wife
(d 1848), and their children John and William also Malinda a 4-month-old
daughter by his second wife Catherine.
Robert Cheeseman
continues to be an "invaluable" RSVP Volunteer donating hours
of time every month to the Historian's office doing research, updating files,
giving tours and photographing local events. Bob was recently awarded a
"Very Special Volunteer Award for 2006" at the 3rd annual Clinton
County's RSVP Recognition Luncheon in October. Again Bob, many thanks
from all of us in Chazy for your continued wonderful work!!
We continue to search for pictures of former Chazy Town Supervisors to display
in the Town Hall. If you know of any that could be donated or copied
please let us know.

The interior of the library has been painted with
no interruption of service!! Thanks to the Library Trustees, who packed,
moved, and reshelved books in sections; so Steve LaPierre could paint on
weekends. I'm sure our patrons appreciate Steve's flexibility as much as
I do.
Come in for a book and check out our bright new
look.

MEMO
FROM ALICE T. MINER MUSEUM: I hope
you will join us for the North Country premier of Paul Frederick's latest
project! This showing is scheduled
especially to honor our Veterans!
"America's
Team: Being a U.S. Air Force Thunderbird"
Friday, November
9th, 7 p.m. Tickets $5
Reservations required Ð due to
limited seating (518) 846-7336
They've
been thrilling audiences since the 1950s! The US Air Force Demonstration Team
has been seen by millions of people all over the world, but few have witnessed
what it takes behind the scenes to safely execute their dazzling air show. For
the first time a female pilot has joined the ranks of this elite fellowship.
This program follows her and the entire Thunderbird squadron for an entire
season, at home and on the road, to show what it's like to be a part of
AMERICA'S TEAM!
We had a
fun visit from the Mooers Wesleyan Church MenÕs Group in September. If
your group would like a tour, please call to set up an appointment today!
I
am very pleased to inform you of The Alice T. Miner Museum's new website. The
site has been in planning and building stages for some time - with the expert
help of Bob Bijou in Mill Valley, California. And now it is ready for your
use! www.minermuseum.org
The photography is mainly the
work of PHOTOPIA/Shaun Heffernan. I took a few shots for our Docents/Staff page
but Shaun has really brought the museum rooms and objects to life on the web
pages!
I hope you'll
take some time to have a look - and return often... We'll soon have a
web exhibit of some wonderful letters written during the Civil War.
Charles Moore wrote letters to family, mainly his mother, while serving his
country in the Capital District. He writes about battles, people, and about
standing his post next to the body of his dear President Lincoln as hundreds of
people pay their respects.
Also note the
"@ The Alice" page, which lists the current events and programs open
to the public.
