Spiegel, Supervisor

It
has been an extremely busy winter and spring! We have been very busy finishing
our Town Hall building renovations. I am very proud of the way it turned out.
Although our open house was sparsely attended, those who did attend were very
impressed of our accomplishments. I would like to thank all the Town Officials,
Town Employees, and even students of local schools, who donated numerous hours
of their time to save the taxpayers many thousands of dollars on this project.
It has a very professional atmosphere without losing the old character that
encompasses the building.
I would like to thank
Chazy Central Rural School for again helping to make the Summer Swim Program a
huge success. Hats off to Liz Buchser and her staff
for all the hard work to make this program the extreme success it is.
Many
thanks also to all the program coordinators and coaches of the summer baseball
program. Tom Tetreault is our new Chairman of Youth
programs. Jim Lucas did a tremendous job with overseeing the summer baseball
program. Great job everyone!
Our new bathroom facility
at the Chazy Recreation Park has received great reviews. Many thanks to Conrad Bechard, Tom Roberts, and help from the highway crew for a
job well done.
We look forward to a busy
fall and continuing to make decisions that will move our town in a positive
direction.
The winter months are
quickly approaching with lots to do! We will be working on the budgets and many
more projects. We hope you all have a great fall and winter.
Richard
Lewis – Highway Superintendant
This
has been a busy summer despite the rain. We paved parts of the Ratta Road, Ridge Road, and North Farm Road for a total of
2.3 miles which cost $175,000. Several
road culverts were replaced because of deterioration or heaving. Macdam Road,
Ridge Road, and Sanger Lane brush and trees that were to close to the edge of the
pavement were cut and chipped. The wood will be used to heat the Town garage
this winter. Road shoulders were cut to improve water run off to ditches.

Ditching was also done
where needed. Road side mowing was done two times this
summer on all Town roads to give you a better view of traffic at intersections.
We will be going around one more
time before winter. In a few weeks
we will be hauling sand to mix with salt for this winter. The highway garage now has
internet service and the E-Mail is chazyhighway@westelcom.com.

Bob Cheeseman – Town of Chazy Historian
Summer of 2009 has seemed too short mainly because
of the weather, but here we are half way through September.
The one nice thing about summer is that most of the
scheduled events had nice sunny days.
The
Hudson Fulton Quadricenntennial year is moving
smoothly with the signature event on September
19th at the Crown Point Historic Site and Campsite. It runs
from 9am to 9pm, is free and open to the public and will feature
historic, cultural, educational, nature and family activities, and a special
ceremony rededicating the Crown Point Historic Lighthouse and an evening
fireworks show over Lake Champlain.
The trip will be well worth the time.
Dr. George W. Clark, on his passing, has willed his
home and contents to the Alice T. Miner Colonial Collection to be used as a
museum. The house was built in
1813 by Solomon Fisk and the Clark Family obtained it in or about 1920. This is a house of historic importance
to the Town and I believe the Museum Board should be encouraged to come up with
a way to carry out Dr. ClarkÕs wishes.
The Museum Board has a year to make up their mind, and then if they say
no, it will be passed along to the Clinton County Historical Association.
Dr. ClarkÕs Office Building has been willed to the
Chazy Public Library. The Chazy
Public Library has sent out a survey to Chazy Library District residents asking
if the Library should utilize the building. Please send them your opinion.
Just a reminder to help
this office, when you are cleaning attics and other storage areas please do not
throw out those old letters, pictures, bills, and other papers of your
great-grandparents, grandparents, and, parents as they can be very important to
the history of our Town. Please
consider a donation of papers or items or copies of information for the
HistorianÕs Office.
